Why go the long way

I talked about a friend who thought it was ok top just do nothing or everything when he felt like it. I pissed a question wheni could no longer bite my tongue. I asked;
What if the thing you wanted was unavailable when you finally decided to go for it?
See i knew he would almost certainly relate this to me and his wanting to have a relationship with me. His response, and i almost fell out of my seat, was as follows;
“then i wait, i know i will get it just not then in there. Good things come to those who wait”
Ok, besides using an over used overrated cliche, that’s just unrealistic. You would wait? As if to say you are entitled to whatever it may be, and although you missed it the first time around, it will jump into your hands eventually.
Besides being speechless, i was a bit frustrated with the response and so I responded with;
…never through inactivity, patients is one thing, sitting on your hands is something else…
To this he says

” Ya Thats true. But over the years i learned i will get the same thing whether i rush or wait but usually not rushing with the important things turns out better in the end or long haul.”(copy paste)

I wanted top shake the heck out of him.

Me: “Where not talking about rushing, we’re talking about trying”

Him: I know. Once i try it it either go or no go and if its worth while then yes i will do what it takes to get it done

Me: Ah ha so the answer is yes if you want something bad you’ll do what it takes to get it. 😉

Why did it take an entire day to get this answer? Who knows, maybe people just need to go the long draw out way around the pond instead of just noticing that the pond’s only inches deep and passable.
